Throughout high school, Rita Zhang was actively involved in the community through various volunteer activities, including cleaning up at Land Park, assisting at local food banks, volunteering at Chinese elementary schools, and founding a chapter dedicated to writing encouraging cards for individuals struggling with mental illness. Academically, Rita was part of the Humanities and International Studies Program (HISP) in McClatchy High School, took AP courses, and participated in dual community college and high school enrollments. This allowed her to challenge herself and broaden her learning experience. Beyond academics, Rita dedicated much of her time to Chinese folk dance with First Position Dance Academy. This is an activity she has been a part of for about eight years. She still remembers when they transitioned from renting studio spaces to finally opening its own studio. It was an incredible milestone that reflected their commitment and growth as dancers. After years of hard work and dedication both in and out of school, Rita is proud that she had been accepted to the University of California, San Diego, where she plans to major in Clinical Psychology.
