2024 Elk Grove Chinese Association Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Symphanie Fan Symphanie Fan graduated from Laguna Creek High School, ranking in the Top 10 of her class. She held leadership positions in various school clubs, including National Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, Link Crew, and Girls Who Code. She was also actively involved as a Student Director on her high school dance team, Infinite Motion. Her curiosity and intellect will be further explored and challenged at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), where she will major in Cognitive Science and hope to understand how future advancements in technology can be utilized in various fields.

Annika Gumm Annika Gumm graduated from Franklin High School in May of 2024. In the four years of high school, she was a part of Fusion Dance Company and became a student director her senior year. She is also the treasurer of Operation Smile, a member of the National Honor Society and has obtained a bilingual seal. Outside of school, she began dancing at the age of 3 and joined the Elite Studio of Dance competition team for six years. In addition to dancing, she was a committee member of APAPA’s Youth Council, played piano, and interned at dental offices over the summer. She will attend the University of the Pacific, to study pre-dentistry in the fall.

Katelyn Guo Katelyn Guo graduated from C. K. McClatchy Senior High School in 2024 as valedictorian. She was captain of her varsity tennis team and played the flute in Sacramento Youth Symphony’s Premier Orchestra. She was in the Sacramento Sea Cadets where she was a Leading Petty Officer and advanced to the CyberPatriot National Finals with her team. She attended summer research programs at UCSB for two summers and worked with a mentor to conduct research in neuroscience, medicine, and computer science. She will be attending Brown University in the fall where she intends to pursue biomedical engineering or data science.

Hayden Liu This June Hayden Liu will graduate from Mira Loma High School. He is the president of Mira Loma Model United Nations and has earned various national level Model United Nations awards. He is also the Mira Loma Future Business Leaders of America club treasurer. Outside of school, Hayden has been playing piano since the age of five and the flute since the age of ten. He was awarded the California Music Teacher’s Association Certificate of Merit Level 10 and the Crescendo International Music Competition First Honors. In 2021, he played a piano solo at Carnegie Hall. In the fall he plans to attend UC Berkeley, majoring in mechanical engineering.
