2022 Elk Grove Chinese Association Foundation Scholarship Recipients

Carissa Gumm graduated from Franklin High School in May 2022. In high school, she danced with Fusion Dance Company for four years and became student director during her senior year. She was also part of the National Honors Society and received The Seal of Biliteracy. In addition to school activities, Carissa has been dancing since she was 3 years old. She joined the Elite Studio of Dance competition team for 3 years. Other than dance, she also played piano and earned the California Piano Teacher Certificate, which allowed her to teach a few students. In the fall, she will be attending the University of California, Santa Barbara to study either civil or electrical engineering.

Joshua Xu graduated from the Davis Senior High School (DHS). He was the captain of the DHS Speech and Debate Team, and won multiple awards in policy debate at the regional and national tournaments. Joshua was also the president of the DHS Mu Alpha Theta Math Honors Society/Math Club, and a member of the varsity tennis team for 4 years. He is the National Merit Scholarship winner. He will attend Brown University in the fall where he intends to pursue a double major in Applied Math and Economics.

Alissa Wong graduated from Franklin High School (FrHS) in 2022. She was part of Key Club all four years of high school. She also did Theatre in her Freshman and Sophomore years. Outside of school, she has been playing violin since she was 5 and piano since she was 8. She earned The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) grade 8 certificates for both piano and violin. She has been part of multiple orchestras since she was 5 with the most recent one being the Sacramento Camellia Symphony Orchestra. She performed piano solo at Carnegie Hall in 2019, as well as violin solo in 2022. She was awarded at an international music competition in 2020. She received the Presidential Volunteer Service Award in 2019. She will be attending California Polytechnic, San Luis Obispo in the fall majoring in Food Science.

Owen Wong, 19 Year old Franklin Highschool graduate and will be attending CSULB fall of 2022 studying computer engineering. Owen is active in various clubs including Asian Passion Program as treasurer, the club is helping those in need of free education in Asian countries and offering community service for students tutoring English to children in Asia. And in the Entrepreneurship Club, to help high school students get a head start to learning financial education, as a mentor for the club I share my financial knowledge and experiences to help other students at Franklin learn.
