2013 Elk Grove Chinese Association Youth Scholarship Recipients

There are four scholarships awarded to the Elk Grove Chinese Association high school graduates this year: 1 Golden Arch Scholarship, and 3 Elk Grove Chinese Association Foundation Scholarships.

Scholarship Recipients

Dorian Chen Dorian Chen graduated from Franklin High School in Elk Grove. He participated in Key Club for four years where he served as the club secretary and the division spirit coordinator. He is also a part of the school track team where he ran the 110M Hurdles and the 4x100M and jumped the triple jump. This year, he became the 110 M Hurdle DVC Champion. This fall, Dorian will attend UC San Diego where he will major in Biochemistry.
Chanel Cheung Chanel Cheung is 17 years old. She grew up in Sacramento, California. She recently graduated from Monterey Trail High School and will be attending University of California, Davis in the fall. She plans to study animal science and to attend veterinary school afterwards. Something she is passionate about is volleyball, which she participated in all four years of high school. She was voted the most valuable player in her freshman and sophomore years and was the team captain during her senior year. During her last two years, the women’s volleyball team won championships and went to playoffs. She excelled in Chemistry and Math, and enjoyed exploring her creative side in a wide variety of elective courses.
Katrina Ye Katrina Ye graduated from West Campus High School in Sacramento with a cumulative GPA of 4.48. She was a member of several extra-curricular activities, such as Key Club, French Honor Society, California Scholarship Federation, as well as the Chapter President of National Honor Society during her senior year. She was awarded with Principal’s Honor Roll, French Honor Society Cord, National Honor Society Stoles, CSF Lifetime Member, and was the recipient of the West Campus Foundation for Excellence Scholarship. She served as the Sacramento City Unified School District Student Board Member during her senior year and the Student Advisory Council Marketing Chair during her junior year. Katrina will attend the University of California, Los Angeles this fall to study Biology.

Garvin Yee graduated from Laguna Creek High School with a final GPA of 4.33. In high school, he was a tennis player, the Key Club Volunteer Coordinator, and a Mathlete. He is attending California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo for Computer Engineering in the fall of 2013.
