2012 Ronald McDonald House Charity Scholarship Award

This year’s ceremony for the Ronald McDonald House Charity Scholarship Award was held on June 16, 2012 at the California State Capitol West Steps. Five high school graduates from families of the Elk Grove Chinese Association are among the award recipients. Each recipient will receive $1000 from the Ronald McDonald House Charity Scholarship/Asian Fund in the fall when they enter the universities of their choices.

Allen Chen graduated from Franklin High School in Elk Grove. He was the president of Mathlete during his senior year. In addition, he was a member of the swim team at Franklin High. Allen is attending the University of California, Berkeley this fall to study business.

Tiffany Fan graduated from Franklin High School in Elk Grove with a cumulative GPA of 4.78. She was involved in many students’ activities, such as Student Government, Link Crew, National Honor Society, Mathletes, Science Olympiad, Japanese National Honor Society, and Key Club. As an outstanding student at Franklin High, Tiffany received numerous awards, including Wildcat Distinguished Student, Gold Community Service Award (400+ Hours), AP Scholar with Distinction, Silver and Bronze Medal at NorCal Science Olympiad State Competition, Outstanding Scholar (Top 10 in Senior Class), Principal’s Honor Roll, Academic Block F, Leadership Cord, and CSF Lifetime Member. She is also a winner of the Elk Grove Community Fund Scholarship. Tiffany will attend the University of California, Los Angeles majoring Biochemistry.

Lydia Lu graduated from Sacramento Country Day School. In her junior and senior year in high school, she played softball on the school team as a left fielder. Lydia is planning on attending the University of Rochester in Up State New York to study business.

Vanessa Su is sixteen-years-old. She is the youngest graduate from Franklin High School this year. She is a member of Fusion Dance Company and is also a Key Club Historian. She is the recipient of Franklin High’s AP Scholar Award and Community Service Award. Vanessa will attend the University of California, Berkeley to study in the College of Letters and Science.

Kevin Tong graduated from Laguna Creek High School in Elk Grove. He was a member of the school’s tennis team for two years and was the president of the Japanese Culture Club. Kevin will be attending the University of California, Davis this fall with a major in computer science.
