2007 Ronald McDonald House Charities Scholarship Recipients

The Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) National Scholarship Program awards high school seniors for their college studies. This year, there are three Elk Grove Chinese Association youths received the scholarship. They are Randal Du, Vanna Lee, and Josh Qin.

The award ceremony was held on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the north site of the California State Capitol. State Assembly member Dave Jones and several state and county elected officers and community leaders attend the ceremony. RMHC local chapter President Mary Liu hosted the award ceremony. Elk Grove Chinese Association Vice President Jane Liang and Secretary Wendy Zhao attended the ceremony.

Randal Du graduated from Franklin High School at Elk Grove Unified School District. He ranked number 6 of the class 2007 of more than 600 graduating seniors. He is a member of school choir. At Franklin High School graduate ceremony, Randal and other two students sang the National Anthems. Their performance received thunderous applauds by the audience. Randal is going to attend the University of California at San Diego to study electrical engineering in the fall.

Vanna Lee graduated from Laguna Creek High School. She was a member of the famed Rocketry Club at the school. Her club won two second places in the last year’s NASA Students Launch Initiative Competition at Huntsville, Alabama. Vanna is going to attend the University of California at San Diego to study mechanical engineering this fall.

Josh Qin graduated from Franklin High School as the Valedictorian of class 2007. Talented in both scholastics and sports, Josh also is involved in the community services. He participated in the precinct walks with Elk Grove Chinese Association’s adult members in the last year’s election. He is the captain of Franklin High’s Olympic Decathlon Team. He as received numerous awards in math and science competitions. Josh is going to attend the interschool program provided by Wharton School and School of Art/Science in the University of Pennsylvania to study joint degree in science and business.
