2009 EGCA Summer Picnic at Miwok Park

The summer picnic party at the park has been a tradition for the Elk Grove Chinese Association. The 2009 summer picnic was held on Sunday, August 16. More than 100 members attended this gathering. As usual, many families came with three generation members. Kids found their friends at the playground; grandparents chatted with their long time friends under the shape of big oak trees; Young people played tennis at the nearby court.

As usual, vice president Jianjun Chen served as the chief chef for the barbecue. He came early to prepare the food. He directed his helper and apprentice Yiwen Liang to marinate the Korean BBQ ribs and chickens. Later, the cooking team was expanded by the jointing of council members Tony Huang and Charlie Huang (not related), and member Jiashu Liu, Yanda Zhang, and Zirong Huang. By the time most members arrived, the meats were ready for the lunch. Members bought their own favorite dishes and sweets to share.

Vice president Tao Huai, having a new baby girl three months ago, took the lead to entertain kids. He and several parents hang the first pinata on the tree and lined up kids to take turns striking it. Soon, one pinata was down and kids got their candies. Another pinata was up. Kids and parents had a great time at the children’s game.

After lunch, President Jane Liang introduced the new EGCA Council:

At the end, members gathered for a group picture to record the golden time in the park.
